![]() For example, you might be on your way to winning a bunch of tricks, and then your opponent switches up the trump suit, so you switch it back thinking you outsmarted them, but to your surprise, your opponent was secretly holding back a bunch of cards that let them win tricks in the original suit, and they used that other card to fake you out. But the interactions between the special card powers mean that the direction of rounds can change dramatically between turns, and being able to predict what your opponent might have and know how to respond to or counter it is paramount to victory. Yes, at its core, it's a much simpler game than MtG and mostly focuses on well-known and established trick-taking rules. The reason I love The Fox in the Forest is that it kind of bridges the gap between simpler traditional card games like Hearts and a more complex dueling CCG-style game like Magic: The Gathering. I have not even looked into Claim yet, so I don't know anything about it. There is a tiny pocket version which is quite cute if you want it. ![]() But at any one time, the decision space is fairly simple.Ĭlaim 2 adds some complexity and is meant to be excellent, but I would try Claim first and see if you like it. In the first round you are winning cards to use in the second round where you score the majority of your points. The game is split into two halves a bit like Biblios. A slip up can result in the other player running away with that round and I can see why that would not be some player's preference.Ĭlaim is much more forgiving and at any one time there is a much smaller decision space, even though there are some nice strategies overall. Do I want to change the trump, are there 7s that I want to win, am I going to win too many or too few tricks, do I want to lead the next trick or not. By that I mean that there are a lot of things to think about when playing a card.
